Ibiza

Ibiza is one of the most beautiful islands in Europe and it certainly is the liveliest one. Every year more than 4 million visitors come to the island, which has just over 100,000 permanent residents. ‘Eivissa’ is the formal Catalan name and the name used by its inhabitants.

The Balearic island has had many occupants over the last thousand years - from the ancient Phoenician and Carthigan peoples to the Greeks, Moors, Turks and Catalans. By the 60's, though, the main invaders were hippies and they established Ibiza as a place for counterculture. All left their cultural fingerprints on Ibiza with a 2,000-year-old salt industry, an old smugglers route, a hippie market and a charming old town. Now, Ibiza is more international than ever.

This is evident in the many restaurants with very different culinary experiences and in the bars and clubs with chic designs and absolutely breathtaking scenery. Ibiza has everything to offer from an extreme party vacation to a tranquil island holiday for the family, from funky drinks to ancient traditional meals. It’s a place that gives you a taste for more.

Besides being the clubbing capital of the world, Ibiza also has an amazing natural beauty, a superb climate and a World Heritage site. Whether you want to lose yourself to the music of the world’s best DJs in Ibiza’s unmatched party scene or if you want to enjoy the astounding clear sea, warm sun, attractive coves and eventful beaches – or a bit of everything – you have certainly come to the right place. Part of the Balearic Islands, Ibiza is a jewel in the Mediterranean Sea. You can explore the blissfulness of the island by day, party by night – all night – and then relax on one of the many divine beaches. Alternatively, you can party twenty-four-seven.

The reasons for travelling to Ibiza are the lovely beaches, great water and happy people. Whether you are here for the water sports or to get a nice tan, Ibiza has the beach for you!

Ibiza is more than just bars and beach life. Take a day to explore the island by bike or car, stroll among the narrow streets of Dalt Vila and pick up a real bargain at the Hippie market. This is a lovely holiday destination!

Ibiza’s culture and history is reflected in the islands culinary heritage. The cuisine is strongly influenced by different Mediterranean cultures and in particular by the cuisine of Catalonia. Fresh fish and seafood dominate the island’s culinary culture of course. However, as a big tourist destination, Ibiza’s restaurants cater for all kinds of gastronomic desires.

Here at Ibiza you can find many cool, funky cafés to chill out and relax at. Choose from great coffee, a cocktail for lunch or delicious pastries.

The bars on Ibiza are at least as famous as its clubs as they set the scene and the mood for the nightlife to come. Drinks are a little cheaper here than in the clubs and many bars have free entry. There are club ticket deals and sometimes promotional offers on free chupitos (shots).

People and DJ's come to Ibiza from all over the world to party the whole night long, and, whoa, are they good at it! It is the most experimenting, beautiful and massive clubbing experience in the world. Season runs from June throughout September. Entrance fees are between €20-60.

Ibiza brags of having the largest numbers of stores on the smallest area in the world and it really looks the part. On Ibiza, you can find a selection of the latest and craziest in fashion for your night out - or cool accessories for your day at the beach. Just south of Ibiza Town is the resort Figueretas. You will find plenty of shops selling the usual brands, sportswear, souvenirs and handicrafts from Ibiza. Here is also the big market Malacoste.

In Sant Antoni and Sant Antoni Bay you can shop at large department stores and shops along the coast. You’ll find everything from fashion and beach wear to music and souvenirs.
